Goldfish Racing Rules
British Goldfish Racing Association
Congratulations!
You are now the proud owner of a thoroughbred racing goldfish! It could easily emerge as Britain's Fastest Goldfish, and you will be entrusted to keep it in ful racing form for the duration of its racing career. Proceed immediatly to the Blue Pool Track where your fish will be ready and awaiting Starter's Orders.
After being satisfied that your fish is safely in the starting gate, please retire to the "Finish" end of the track. At the end of the lane which you fish is in you will find a string - DO NOT PULL IT YET - under no circumstances should the string be pulled yet.
Please do not hit the water, poke the fish or attempt to feed them at any time. Grinning, whistling, pulling fish faces and shouting are all permitted.
The race begins as soon as all fish have been allocated to numbered lanes and the official starter raises the starting gate and activates the clock.
As soon as your fish crosses the line, pull your string. This raises the 'Lane Gate' and will keep you fish in the finishing enclosure. Care should be taken not to flush your fish out of the pool by pulling the string too quickly.
The race clock stops when the first string is pulled, with the winning fish in the finishing enclosure.
If your fish wins the heat, you will need your numbered card to claim your fish.
If your winning times beats the time you see on the blackboard you stand a chance at the end of the day of collecting a prize for owning the day's fastest fish 'THE GOLDEN ARROW'.
At the end of the season, the fish with the best 'GOLDEN ARROW TIME' from all meetings will become 'GOLDEN GILLS' - Britain's fastest goldfish! And will hold the Challenge Trophy for one year!
ANYONE CAUGHT FEEDING THEIR FISH SPEED ENHANCING STIMULANTS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED! WINNERS WILL BE TESTED!
